Corban in Waiting

Corban Levi, born July 27, 2011. 5lbs 1oz. Please pray for our little boy. So fragile. Doctors are still trying to figure out what all is going on. His left arm is broken, hips are dislocated and leg bones fractured. He is on pain meds and can't be held (which makes momma sad). Also I have been faint, and got cold chills last night, so I didn't get to see him yesterday. Pray that our Lord heals Corban's fragile body, and gives the doctors wisdom and understanding in diagnosing his condition. Giving thanks for every good and perfect gift.

Hangin' On

Here's Corban hooked up to a bunch of different machines. He's a mess.
So wishing the scowl on his face weren't there. It means my little baby is in pain.

Welcoming Corban

Corban Levi was born by c-section, July 27, 2011 at 1:49pm. He was almost full term (at 36.5 weeks) and weighed 5lbs. 1oz at birth.

We've known for a while now that our baby might have physical abnormalities, but it was confirmed at birth when we saw him for the first time. Soon after the c-section, they held Corban up for us to see and then whisked him away. His hands were balled up, fingers twisted, legs pointed up toward his face, and feet formed like pancakes against his legs.

Corban's x-ray soon revealed that he had a broken arm, two broken legs and both of his hips were dislocated. This has presented several challenges to his healing/progress (he can't be moved, held, nursed, etc.) He has to be supported by a ventilator and is on heavy pain killers. Edema has also been a constant battle, as he can't be moved.

A note from Corban's daddy, a week after Corban's birth:
"We would like to thank everybody once again for their display of love and concern during this time of welcoming our new little boy, Corban, into the world. His entry into this world has actually seemed more like a crash landing, with his parents standing off to the side, only able to watch and pray. The doctors had been telling us that there maybe some abnormalities, and that all we could do was to wait and see what hand we were dealt.
Moments after he was born, it was confirmed in my mind that Corban should be his name. Corban's name means, “a blessing from God dedicated back to God.” As Christians, we all want our children to be dedicated to God, and ideally we know that it often starts with us. With Corban, though, we’ve felt like we have entered into a situation where only God can take someone little and weak in this world and show Himself as mighty.
Please continue to pray for our little man, because he is in a lot of pain when he is not drugged up, and he has not been held by his mommy yet. We stood in the NICU yesterday and tried to sing “Because He Lives” just like my mom sang to me when I was a baby. We could not get the words out. Lord willing, we will have many more opportunities in the future."
Because He Lives
God sent His Son, they called Him Jesus
He came to love, heal, and forgive
He lived and died to buy my pardon
An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

Because He lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives.

How sweet to hold a new born baby
And feel the pride, and joy he gives
But greater still the calm assurance
This child can face uncertain days because He lives.

Because He lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
And then one day I'll cross the river
I'll fight life's final war with pain
And then as death gives way to vict'ry
I'll see the lights of glory and I'll know He lives.

Because He lives I can face tomorrow
Because He lives all fear is gone
Because I know He holds the future
And life is worth the living just because He lives.
